The UK, the UAE and the changing economics of regulated gambling
From 1 April 2026, UK Remote Gaming Duty increased from 21% to 40%. A new 25% remote betting rate is scheduled from 1 April 2027, with specific exclusions. At the same time, the UAE’s federal regulator now oversees lottery, internet gaming, sports wagering and land-based gaming, and publishes growing operator and vendor licensee lists.
