The UK, the UAE and the changing economics of regulated gambling

From 1 April 2026, UK Remote Gaming Duty increased from 21% to 40%. A new 25% remote betting rate is scheduled from 1 April 2027, with specific exclusions. At the same time, the UAE’s federal regulator now oversees lottery, internet gaming, sports wagering and land-based gaming, and publishes growing operator and vendor licensee lists.

This session examines what these changes mean for operator margins, payment strategy, jurisdiction selection, licensing readiness, supplier relationships and the movement of talent and investment.
